With over a staggering 8.5 million of us owning a dog in the UK, it’s safe to say that man’s best friend has a place in our hearts. From Pugs and Bulldogs to Dalmatians and Collies, whatever shape, size or breed, we all have our favourites.
Since it’s National Dog Day we’re combining our love of dogs with our love of cake and have provided you with some recipes, tips and techniques to turn your pooch into a tasty treat for any occasion.
This super cute bulldog cake by Laura Loukaides is easy to make with her step by step video. You can adapt this video or browse through her other creations to make your desired doggy. Guaranteed to impress, you could even add a personalised name tag to make it extra special. Tip – make sure you have all your equipment ready before you begin your cake, preparation is everything in the cake world!
Another incredible 3D dog cake, this furry friend is made with Renshaw products and serves 20! Making it great for a child’s party or a large gathering. The detailed recipe gives you clear instructions for baking, assembly and decoration. But remember, you can make the recipe yours by changing the colours and hair style. Like in real life, no two dogs are the same.
Not feeling up to making a giant cake? Then why not put your paws to a small cake topper. This cute model could sit proudly at the top of any cake, or make a few and create a little party of pups. With this canine, you only need white fondant, the rest is gum paste so you can really make this one your own. This adorable model is by Terry Tang Designer Cakes.
This Dachshund cake is so simple to make and is certain to get tails wagging. Made using Renshaw sugar paste, the easy-to-follow video shows you exactly how to create this. This design is more for beginners, so whatever your skill level you can create an edible pooch. Zoe’s Fancy Cakes creates some amazing designs, so check them out too and don’t forget to share your results.
No longer will your dog be left out with these scrumptious dog (and human) friendly cupcakes…well, your dog won’t eat all of them. Yay! They’re super easy and you’ll find most of the ingredients in your cupboards. Be the most pawsome owner and treat your dog… last one I promise. But remember no honey for puppies! Make sure your dog’s immune system is mature enough for these cupcakes, and we’d always recommend doing a bit of extra research before baking anything for your doggos!
We often run dog themed courses at the Renshaw Academy, such as Molly Robbins’ carved Pug class, and sculpted Bulldog and French Bulldog classes from Emma Jayne Cake Design. You can learn a range of skills in our classes, like carving large cakes and forming Rice Krispie treat structures, as well as decorating with Renshaw products and developing airbrushing skills. Keep an eye on the course page to see what’s coming up next.
