What To Bake For Father’s Day

Wednesday 14th June 2017

Looking for some ideas to bake for dad or with him this Father’s Day? We’ve got some great examples to try out. You could bake something based on a hobby or interest, or choose a fun idea that you can spend some quality time making with dad.

Gardening Cake

For the gardening fanatic in the family, go all out on this allotment themed cake, specially created for Renshaw by Richard Burr, finalist in series 5 of The Great British Bake Off.

Celebrate your dad or granddad’s love of gardening by modelling a miniature vegetable patch, and customise to what they’ve been cultivating themselves. Gardening can be a relaxing hobby, but it’s always great to put your feet up afterwards. Reward your gardening enthusiast with a slice of this and a cup of tea after they’ve been working hard outside.

Richard created the realistic looking soil by mixing heated caster sugar with dark chocolate. Find out how he made the rest of the cake
here.

Sports Themed Bakes

If your dad is a sports fan, then you’ve got some fun options to choose from for your celebration bake. Customise some t-shirt shaped biscuits with coloured fondant icing based on his favourite rugby or football team. You can follow our simple guide to making them
here.

If you really want to impress, you could cover a round cake with icing to create a football, but make sure dad gets the biggest slice! Found out how to decorate a football cake
here.

Bakes for Film & TV Fanatics

Does your dad have a favourite TV show that he loves to binge watch? We’ve all been there! What would make it even better is enjoying a themed bake while watching. This bright cake was made for a fan of The Flash by Annemarie Triano, and you can find out how she made it
here.

Stencils are a good way to create designs you need for a TV show themed cake, so preparation is key with this type of design.

Cakes you can make with Dad

Instead of baking something for dad, why not bake something with him? Spend some quality time together and bake up some biscuits or cupcakes that can be enjoyed by everyone in the family. This is also a fun activity for little kids to get involved in the decorating with their favourite colours of icing.

Get imaginative with
these dinosaur biscuits and think of different designs you could create. They’re so simple to decorate too; roll balls or shapes of icing over another colour to create your chosen pattern.

If you’re after an easy to make cupcake recipe then these sweet burgers will go down a treat! They’d also be the perfect dessert for a Father’s Day BBQ, so check the recipe out
