The search for the ultimate Christmas cake is over! Having received hundreds of inspirational home-made Christmas bakes from our merry band of bakers and cake decorators, and scoured the globe for the best alternative Christmas cake designs, experienced cake decorator Trish Clarke has cooked up the most delicious festive treat, combining everyone’s festive favourites of both cake and turkey.
Her Christmas Turkey Cake, weighing in at over 10kg, has been crafted out of Renshaw Ready to Roll Icing to make the sweetest Christmas dinner imaginable, complete with all the trimmings. Calling on over 20 years of sugar craft experience, Trish’s incredibly life-like cake is entirely edible, with the turkey based on a sizeable portion of carved madeira cake, and the traditional accompaniments modelled from fondant icing.
Achieving the luscious golden brown through airbrushing and clear gel to create the appetising, just-cooked glaze, the turkey looks good enough to eat, and with miniature cakes forming the meaty drumsticks, having this incredible cake as the centrepiece of your Christmas table (should you have a spare week in which to create it) might prove too tempting, seeing you tuck in before the big day.
If you’re a bad boy or girl this Christmas, and simply can’t wait, the intricately modelled pigs in blankets are made entirely of sugar paste and much easier to recreate, with white and pink icing rolled out to create the streaky effect. Airbrushed roast potatoes carved from icing – also hand painted to create those moreish crispy bits – and stuffing balls made through mixed grey, green, white and black icing, stippled to create that traditional bobbly stuffing texture.
No Christmas dinner, sweet or savoury, would be complete without the veg. Moulded carrot batons, miniature peas rolled out and even the much maligned sprout makes an appearance, rolled out of green icing, decorated with runs of royal icing and wrapped round with flatted icing leaves, providing the veiny texture on the outside of this most divisive device at Christmas dinner. Surely even the biggest sprout hater would find it hard to resist!
How will you be decorating your Christmas cake?
