The Royal Baby Celebration Cake: 10 Cakes To Inspire Royal Baking

Tuesday 23rd July 2013

No happy occasion is complete without a celebration cake, and as royal warrant holders for our almond products, we tasked some of the best baking bloggers in the UK with creating a cake fit to welcome our future king into the world. Naturally making use of our marzipan as well as our ready to roll icing in their sugar craft endeavours, we received many regally inspired entries.

With everything from Union Jack themed bakes to bunting bedecked cakes, we were spoilt for choice, but based on sheer creativity, sugar craft skill and pristine appearance, here is our winner and two runners up!

Winner: Royal Baby Cake by Cakes by Kate

Cakes by Kate - Royal Baby Cake

An immaculately covered cake, we adored the simple banner with gold lettering and elaborately stencilled crown motif, with modelled baby friendly blocks of red and blue ready to roll icing from our new Primary Colour Multipack. For more details on how to create the cake, made with red and blue sponge, check out the step by step instructions over on Cakes by Kate’s blog.

Runner Up: Royal Cushion Cake by Cakes and Catwalks

Cakes and Catwalks - Royal Baby Cake

Elegant gifts for a royal baby, Cakes and Catwalks went off brief and used lilac and orange from the Renshaw Ready to Roll Icing range on top of a carved almond flavoured sponge, and we loved the end result. A quilted cushion with a twisted border, topped with modelled and painted dummies and lion-adorned baby shoe is the perfect welcome for a royal baby, Cakes and Catwalks shows you how to make it over on her blog.

Runner Up: Royal Booties Cake by Cakey Boi

Cakey Boi - Royal Baby Cake

The bold Union Jack covering, much like our Union Jack cake, and delicately modelled baby booties in blue (how did he know?) really stood out from the crowd. Check out Cakey Boi’s blog for the inspiration behind his creation.

The winner receives a cake decorating master class with Peggy Porschen, and the runners up a signed Peggy Porschen Baking Boutique book and £25 worth of vouchers to redeem off an order at www.renshawbaking.com.
