What is it with you lot and Ready To Roll Icing? After last week’s incredible selection of entries we’ve been inundated with a flood of incredible animal cake toppers
Our judge this time around was none other than Lynn Hill founder of the Clandestine Cake Club. In her years of running the Clandestine Cake Club, Lynn has seen her fair share of cakes with creative toppers.
This cute giraffe family from Gemma Ford stole Lynn’s heart. “I loved the detail on these giraffes. Everything was evenly proportioned, from the ears down to their hoofs. A lovely smooth finish makes it easier to paint the markings on the bodies. A good use of colour made the giraffes look natural too. Those pricked up ears and contented faces tell me that Gemma had a lot of fun making them.”
Congratulations to Gemma, who wins the prize of a £100 Renshaw Baking voucher.
Lynn felt that the following two cakes deserved a special mention alongside our lucky winner.
This oh-so cute birthday cake by Kerry Newton takes the “ahhh” factor and ramps it up a notch or two. Lynn loved the colours used here and the extension of the theme to the cupcake toppers too. “I can imagine all the animal noises going on at this party, what fun they must have had!”
Lynn adored this melancholy looking horse created by Lisa Ogden. “I wanted to take this little pony home and place him on my desk to keep me company. This is the sort of topper you’d want to keep forever!” Lynn singled out the details of the mane and the skill in fashioning the reins.
Congratulations to our winner Gemma Ford, and both our honourable mentions, and thank you to Lynn for taking the time to judge the dozens of entries we received.
This week we’ll be announcing the challenge for our semi-final, so be sure to check back to our blog for the full details.
