We asked Suzy Pelta to judge the competition and select a winner for this week’s challenge. For those of you who don’t know, Suzy catapulted to fame after winning ITV’s Lorraine Cake Club Competition with a delicious chocolate and banana cake with peanut butter frosting. Suzy was crowned Cake Club Queen and her cake scooped the title of Britain’s Best Cake. You can buy her ‘Bake With Suzy’ gourmet baking kits all around the world. The kits come loaded with all the ingredients you need to make some of Suzy’s tastiest recipes. Suzy’s currently working on her first recipe book and you can read more about her unique take on baking in the latest issue of Brilliant Baking Magazine.
It was a tall order, because we received so many amazing entries, but after careful consideration Suzy managed to choose a winner, and also highlighted a couple of efforts that she felt deserved a special mention.
Here are the summer cupcakes that scooped the £25 Renshaw Baking prize. These delectable delights came from Cora’s Celebration Cakes. Suzy chose these beautiful Wimbledon cupcakes because of their creativity and skilled execution. ‘These cupcakes scream “Wimbledon”! They are such a lovely idea and so effective,’ Suzy said. ‘Every one of them is neat, delicious looking and executed brilliantly. Well done!’
We received loads of entries, and Suzy felt that the standard was high across the board. ‘All the ice cream cupcakes made me want to dive into them and the Pimms cupcakes also looked delicious.’ But these two efforts got a special thumbs-up from Suzy.
These floral cupcakes from @1ceuponacupcake really stood out from the crowd for Suzy: ‘These cupcakes are just gorgeous. I love the lavender across the cupcake and the lilac colour of the frosting. Beautiful.’
Summer is definitely a time to get outdoors and enjoy some sports, so it’s no wonder Suzy loved these cricket cupcakes from Laura Taylor. ‘I clearly like my sports themes cupcakes! Again, another clever idea, executed perfectly.’
So congratulations to our winner who will be receiving a £25 Renshaw Baking voucher, and a big thank your to Suzy Pelta for taking the time to judge all the entries.
Get ready for the second challenge, which will be announced on our blog shortly.
