The Great Renshaw Bake Off Week Four – The Results

Monday 1st September 2014

After a week of drama on the Great British Bake Off, with a binned baked Alaska and accusations of sabotage, we can hardly wait to see how the show is going to unfurl this week. But in the meantime it’s time to find out who won our own Great Renshaw Bake Off this week.

This week’s judge was the legendary Mich Turner of the Little Venice Cake Company. Cake decorator extraordinaire, bestselling author and TV personality, there’s nobody better placed to judge our Great Renshaw Bake Off.

Mich has cast her eye over a selection of garden themes biscuits and judged your skills at using ready to roll icing. After careful consideration here is her choice of winner.

The Winner

The winning biscuits were submitted by @bevpettiford who receives the £25 Renshaw Baking voucher for her efforts. With those adorable little snails carefully crafted from ready to roll icing it’s easy to see why these biscuits took first prize. For Mich, these biscuits offered the total package: “These garden snails are charming, showcasing good imagination and polished hand finishing skills.  Clever use of colours, components and textures.”

Notable Mentions

Mich singled out two other entries for special mention.

Sharon Viney took the theme of garden biscuits and ran with it, creating this gorgeous cottage garden complete with carrot and pumpkin patches and duck pond. Mich was particularly impressed by Sharon’s “range of hand finish skills, techniques and creativity.”

Iona Wilson’s cute and colourful biscuits caught Mich’s eye: “Bold colours, clever use of cutters and a clean finish offer inspiration to other for creating great garden biscuits.” These biscuits are definitely an excellent example of effective simplicity, a reminder that with a little effort and creativity beautiful bakes can be easily achieved.

So, congratulations to our lucky winner and also big thanks to Mich for taking the time to judge the competition this week.

Baking bowls at the ready for the next challenge, which will be announced on the blog later this week.
