The Great Renshaw Bake Off Week Five – The Results

Monday 8th September 2014

The results are in. After a flurry of baking and marzipan madness it’s time to see who won Week 5 of the Great Renshaw Bake Off.

This week’s judge was the fabulous Fiona Cairns. Baker of the finest luxury cakes and an expert cake decorator, Fiona brought the same care and skill to judging the competition as she applies to each cake she creates.

After careful consideration, here is the winner of Week 5.

The Winner

Tracy Swatton is our winner this week thanks to her brilliant blackbird pie! The first thing that leapt out at Fiona was the creativity of the cake. The marzipan birds are simple and bold and the visual contrast of them against the golden marzipan topping makes the cake a real eye catcher. The finish of the cake is good as well and so Tracy takes home the £50 Renshaw Baking gift voucher. Congratulations Tracy.

Notable Mentions

Once again we asked our judge to pick out a couple of entries that deserved special mention. Fiona chose the following two cakes:

Simon Peers put a neat twist on the good old Battenberg with this custard cream style cake. Fiona picked Simon’s cake for a special mention thanks to its creativity and the nice finish on the logo and decorations.

Rebecca of @perfectingbakes presented a traditional Battenberg which caught Fiona’s eye. She particularly liked the final presentation and finish, as well as the addition of the marzipan leaves for a decorative flourish.

So, congratulations to Tracy for winning this competition and also a big thank you to Fiona for taking the time to judge week 5 of the Great Renshaw Bake Off.

So are you ready for the next challenge? Keep an eye on the blog as we’ll be announcing it shortly.
