Rainbow Girl Guide Cake
This is a cake that Lisa Richards from Wales made for a guiding event for them to raffle off to raise money for a local campsite. It’s made out of a Madeira cake and has jam and butter cream in it, then covered in buttercream and ready to roll icing.

I baked a Madeira cake mix in a toy soldier shaped tin that I have, then cut away the extra sponge around the head to get the shape I needed. The tin is oblong with a slightly rounded bit for the arms and body. You can use another similar shaped tin if you have one.
I used white ready to roll icing to cover the cake, and coloured it to what I needed.
You could buy ready made colours of ready to roll icing if you didn't want to add colour yourself.
Cover the feet and head with icing first so that you can layer the icing clothes slightly over the edges.
Knead and roll out enough red icing to cover the legs then lift over the cake and smooth down. Trim off the excess.
Roll out more red icing to cover the top half of the body and arms. Leave a space for the hands. Overlap this slightly with the red icing on the legs so that it looks more like clothes.
Roll out more pearl blush icing and cover the hands with this. Roll more into thin sausage shapes for the lips and eyebrows, and shape some into a nose. Attach these to the face with a little water.
Roll out some white icing and cut into two eye shapes. Stick these to the face and add a small ball of black icing for the pupil.
Use brown icing (or another colour) for the hair. Roll thin sausage shapes out and start to build these up around the head and face like hair.
Roll out more red icing and layer this up around the top of the jacket and out towards the back of the head for the hood.
Roll out light or baby blue icing and cut into thin strips for the zip and the edging on the hood. Attach these with water. Use a knife to gently add in marks along the zip.
Use more blue, red and a little yellow icing to make the Rainbow logo and attach these to the jacket and trousers with water.
