  • 10 g Cocoa powder
  • 1 tsp Bicarbonate of soda
  • 1 pinch Salt
  • 115 g Unsalted butter
  • 330 g Caster sugar
  • 2 Eggs
  • 250 ml Vegetable oil
  • 1 tsp White vinegar
  • 2 tsp Vanilla extract
  • 250 ml Buttermilk
  • 2.5 tbsp Red food colouring

Decorating ingredients

  • 400 g Philidelphia cream cheese
  • 115 g Unsalted butter
  • 1.5 tsp Vanilla extract
  • 450 g Icing sugar
  • 250 g Renshaw White Ready to Roll Icing
  • 250 g Renshaw Jet Black Ready to Roll Icing
  • 250 g Renshaw White Flower and Modelling Paste
  • Various colourings
  • Edible glue
  • Pearlescent dust

Instructions

Step 1

Follow red velvet recipe instructions to make and fill the red velvet cake. Then level off the top, crumb coat with cream cheese filling and cover with white icing.

Step 2

Next, remove the black ready to roll icing from its packet and then knead until pliable. Roll it out until it reaches a suitable thickness. Once you have done this, cut out the jacket front, lapels, tie and pocket from black icing. Using edible glue attach them on, and then make two buttons from black icing.

Step 3

Remove the white flower paste from its packet and knead and then roll out to desired thickness. Once you have done this, cut out name tags and the men in black film logo from it. Then glue these pieces into place using edible glue.

Step 4

Mix the kneaded black icing with the white flower paste to make grey, and then shape this into a Neuroliser. Brush pearlescent dust onto this and then glue on to cake with edible glue.

Step 5

Now you need to mix different food colours with the white flower paste and then model the icing into 'alien' tentacles. Once you have done that, brush on pearlescent dust and using the edible glue, stick into position.
