  • 225 g butter
  • 225 g caster sugar
  • 4 medium eggs
  • 1 tbsp vanilla extract
  • 175 g self-raising flour - sieved
  • 2 food colourings – various colours

  • Edible coloured glitter
  • Edible coloured sugar stars

Instructions

Baking Instructions:

Step 1

Preheat the oven to 190°C/375°F/gas mark 5.

Step 2

Grease a 20in by 8in cake tin.

Step 3

Cream the butter and caster sugar together until soft and fluffy. Gradually beat in the eggs and vanilla extract until they are well incorporated.

Step 4

Fold in the self-raising flour using a large wooden spoon.

Step 5

Depending on the number of food colourings you wish to use in your marble cake, divide and spoon the mixture equally into separate bowls.

Step 6

Add and mix your chosen food colourings into the separate bowls of mixture, using a few drops of each colour per bowl.

Step 7

Spoon the mixtures into the cake tin, adding one tablespoon of coloured mixture at a time, alternating colours to create a marble effect once baked.

Step 8

Bake for 25 minutes until the cake is firm to the touch.

Step 9

Leave to cool on a wire rack for 5 minutes before turning out and leaving to cool completely.

Decorating Instructions:

Step 10

When cooled, pipe a large swirl of Renshaw Vanilla Frosting onto the cake as per instructions on pack, ensuring you cover the whole surface. Use a pallet knife to smooth the icing over the top of the cake.

Step 11

Sprinkle the Renshaw Vanilla Frosting with the edible coloured glitter and add the edible coloured sugar stars to decorate.
