Game of Thrones Cake

An easy Game of Thrones inspired celebration cake, made of sponge with a jam and buttercream filling and fondant covering and decoration.

Baking ingredients

  • 6 oz butter
  • 6 oz caster sugar
  • 3 eggs
  • 6 oz self-raising flour
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1 tsp vanilla

Decorating ingredients

  • Butter cream icing
  • 250 g Renshaw Jet Black Ready to Roll Icing
  • Jam
  • Renshaw White Royal Icing
  • 500 g Renshaw Fuchsia Pink Ready to Roll Icing


Step 1

Heat oven to 180°C. Cream butter and sugar together. Add eggs one at a time and beat well between each addition.

Step 2

Add vanilla then mix this in. Do the same with the flour and baking powder.

Step 3

Pour into a round baking tin. Bake for 40-50 mins until cooked through.

Step 4

Allow cake to cool completely then cut in half and fill with butter cream icing and jam. Sandwich cake together and crumb coat with butter cream icing.

Step 5

Take both the fondants out of their packets and knead thoroughly. Then roll out the pink fondant to desired thickness and gently cover the cake.

Step 6

Now roll out the black kneaded fondant and using stencils, cut out the decorations. Attach them to the cake using either a little bit of water or edible cake glue.

Step 7

Finish off with a piped trim of royal icing around the bottom edge of the cake and board. Highlight the fondant decorations with some royal icing detail piped around them.
