Marzipan is for life, not just for Christmas – that’s something we feel strongly about. Whether it’s for an occasion or just some nutty enjoyment, there’s a place for marzipan in all good bakes.
Marzipan is not only versatile, but it’s also good for you; almonds, marzipan’s key ingredient, are one of the world’s healthiest foods. They’re full of minerals and healthy fats, meaning there’s nothing stopping you from having that extra slice. Renshaw holds a Royal Warrant for almond products – so you can trust that we know what we’re talking about.
With that in mind, and just in time for National Marzipan Day on January 12th (mark your calendars!), here’s some marzipan-based inspiration for your next creation, with some delicious marzi-puns included:
People can often be hesitant about marzipan at first, but chocolate is so universally loved that we can’t imagine there being much objection to these beautiful marzipan/chocolate combos.
These Marzipan Brownie Slices from our team here at Renshaw are really easy to make, with only a few ingredients and a handful of steps, so they’re a good way to ease yourself into things without a marzi-panic.
After that, you can take things to the next level with this gorgeous Chocolate, Orange and Marzipan Roulade. We all know that chocolate and orange are great partners, but the almond flavour really adds a new dimension to the mix. And really, you can’t go wrong with any recipe that includes a layer of our lush Chocolate Flavour Frosting.
The importance of getting your five-a-day is well-noted, and while we were a little disappointed to learn that it’s not meant to be five portions of marzipan, that won’t stop us lumping some in with our fruit consumption when possible.
Take this scrumptious-looking Apple and Marzipan Torte recipe from Tesco Real Food for example; here the marzipan melts into the cake as it cooks instead of being an extra layer, giving the sponge some mild fragrance. It’s a straightforward, chic little treat.
Another one of our own, this cute Cherzipan Cake is a little loaf of fruity goodness with a nice layer of marzipan running through the centre, surrounded by fluffy cake with some cherries and lemon zest. It’s a perfect blend of complementary flavours, and it’s another really easy cake to make.
Before you say it – yes, we’re well aware that the main ingredient of marzipan is almonds. But if you’re like us and that’s just nut enough for you, then these extra nutty delights will please you.
Stephanie Stiavetti of Fearless Fresh has detailed a recipe for Almond Cake with Marzipan and Ginger. The cake is rich and moist, with an almond garnish that adds some artisanal panache to your handiwork. Plus, as we noted, almonds are incredibly healthy, so it basically doubles as a superfood (please don’t stop eating your greens just yet, though).
Tesco Real Food have another great recipe for Pistachio and Marzipan Logs, combining chocolate and marzipan flavours with an interesting texture given by nuts inside and outside of each log. They’re gorgeous, delightfully complex, and infectiously tasty – sure to trigger a marzi-pandemic.
You know we love to create cakes bursting with personality and colour. We’ve got plenty of products to achieve that aim, but Renshaw Original Marzipan White has properties that make it ideal for modelling. It blends well with colours and flavours, it’s malleable and pliable, and it has a unique flavour that will mean it looks and tastes great.
Take our Easter Bunny Cake for example. This little guy is so cute that you might feel a little guilty for taking a bite. It uses some of our Modelling Pastes and Ready to Roll Icings, as well as our marzipan. This cake is bursting at the seams with vibrancy, charm, and the kind of detail that’s only possible with great ingredients.
The same can be said for our adorable little Marzipan Owl Biscuits. An art project and a confectionary rolled into one, these little patchwork birds combine Renshaw Original Marzipan White and a variety of Rainbow Dust ProGels for a cartoony cookie treat. Colour us impressed!
We’ve only scratched the surface of marzipan-based possibilities within this blog, and we can’t do all the work. Why not share your very best marzipan creations with us on our socials? As always, we’d love to see what you’re creating. Just get in touch with us on social, at Renshaw Baking.
