Dahlicious cakes for Roald Dahl Day

Friday 12th September 2014

Each year on 13th September, Roald Dahl Day is celebrated across the world by his fans to mark the author’s birthday.

Roald Dahl created some of the most memorable and inventive characters and stories including Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, James and the Giant Peach and The Enormous Crocodile, as well as his series of Revolting Recipes.

In honour of Roald Dahl Day (and to celebrate going back to/starting school this month) we want to capture the imaginations of children and adults alike with some of the whipple-scrumptious Dahl-inspired cakes we’ve found, and hope that you enjoy reading one of his books with some of your own Dahlicious bakes!

The Enormous Crocodile

This is certainly a cake we want to sink our teeth into! Created by Liv a Little Bakery, this would be perfect for a children’s party, and the more enormous you create your crocodile, the more cake there is to share!

Charlie and the Chocolate Factory

From “eatable marshmallow pillows” to “everlasting gobstoppers”, there are many weird and wonderful ideas for you to take inspiration from in this book. Sharon Bailey’s vibrant cake pulls us straight into the world of the chocolate factory, but don’t eat too much or you might get a telling-off from the Oompa-Loompas!

James and the Giant Peach

We love these sugar paste creations from Cakenweenie, and the beauty of James and the Giant Peach is there are so many interesting characters for you to try your hand at modelling.

So we’ll leave you with this thought:

We have so much time and so little cake to eat. Strike that. Reverse it.
