Vote for Renshaw’s Colour of the Year 2022

Thursday 6th January 2022

Bakers – it’s time to have your say and help us decide Renshaw’s Colour of the Year 2022!

Colour is an integral thread in the fabric of life. It’s part of how we create, how we relate and how we view the world. It’s a huge part of the DNA of Renshaw too, so this year we once again want to invite you to help us choose a colour to be the face of our icing for the next 365 days.

Our shortlist has been carefully curated based on prevailing trends in the baking community, as well as popular shades and tones in fashion, interior design, fabrics and graphic design. We’ve whittled it down to five glorious choices: Emerald Green, Jet Black, Peach Blush, Pink, and Tiger Orange.

See the colours for yourself and find out a little more about why we’ve selected each one below.

As well as having your say, everyone who votes will be in for a chance of winning a MASSIVE Renshaw and Rainbow Dust hamper!

Emerald Green reflects the earthy, nature inspired tones have been popular across different industries this year, like fashion and interior design, and are predicted to remain so in the new year.

Within the baking community, jungle-themed and nature-themed cakes are seeing a spike in popularity, and this shade remains a seasonal staple, in festive Christmas creations and spooky Halloween treats.

Jet Black‘s dark hue evokes refinement, luxury and tradition – something that many of us have been missing after a few turbulent years.

Black is also symbolic of indulgence, and indulgent, elaborate cakes are tipped to be bigger then ever in 2022, with black being a dominant or complementary shade in many a decoration, looking especially great with metallic textures.

Peach Blush matches the warm, neutral tones that are penetrating popular culture, as we seek cosiness and comfort in our aesthetics.

This shade fits well with subdued palettes, reflecting a potential change in direction from the bold shades that have dominated colour trends in recent years.

Pink remains popular in a cake community that continues to be obsessed with rainbow and unicorn cakes, as well as being a mainstay in celebration cakes, particularly for birthdays and Valentine’s.

Pink shades featured heavily in trends highlighted by Pantone in 2021, and may continue to be widespread in floral cakes and bakes, especially for weddings.

Tiger Orange is a vibrant, mood-boosting warm shade that represents the re-energising that many of us are longing for in this new year.

This colour is perfectly on trend in an increasingly Instagrammable world, as cakes continue to get brighter to make an impact on social media feeds as well as in the real world.
