It’s London Fashion Week and whilst we aren’t expecting to see any models in a dress made from sugarpaste (although we’re not too sure why ?), we thought we’d celebrate the best way we know how… with CAKE!
There’s only one place we can start…
Who remembers this incredible feature by the fondant fashionista Emma Jayne at Cake International from 2017? This pleated masterpiece used 60 kilograms of Renshaw Ready to Roll Icing and 50 kilograms of Renshaw Flower and Modelling Paste and took 6 people to lift it over a garden gate and get it on it’s way to Cake International (the things we do for cake eh?)
Spot the Difference ? Which picture is Emma Jayne’s cake and which is Mak Tumang’s ‘Angela’ wedding gown?
Emma Jayne is far from alone in creating incredible wedding dress cakes out of Renshaw’s sugarpaste. Another throwback now, this one as far back as 2016’s Cake International and this beautiful ‘Weddible Dress‘ made out of wafer paper and of course our famous fondant by the terrific trio Sylvia Elba, Yvette Marner and Ilinka Rnic.
It took the trio over 300 hours to complete this life-sized cake.
And a slightly more recent cake now… hand-painted perfection by Zoe’s Fancy Cakes which featured at Cake International 2019 as part of the ‘Weddings 2: The Posh Shop Frock‘ collaboration of 40 talented cake artists.
An incredible collaboration of cakes based on designs by wedding dress designer Ian Stuart
We couldn’t have a fashion blog without including Melle Blush and her gorgeous sugar shoes, which made for a perfect inclusion into our ‘Cake or Fake’ competition over Christmas.
A-dior-able sugar art ?
And the great thing about sugarpaste shoes… they’re customisable for any occasion – from Christmas to Valentine’s to a bright summer’s day our Modelling Paste will make your perfect shoes (although we wouldn’t recommend wearing them ?).
A sparkle of edible glitter makes any shoe stand out ✨
It wouldn’t be a blog about fashion cakes without mentioning handbags and we couldn’t possibly miss out this expertly carved handbag cake beautifully covered and textured using our fashionable Pastel Green Ready to Roll Icing created by carved cake queen Rhianydd Webb from Dragons and Daffodils Cakes. ?
This beautiful cake was taught at the Renshaw Academy all the way back in 2017!
Renshaw fondant isn’t just for cakes – it’s great on cookies too! Our NEW Marshmallow Extra is ideal for cookies with it’s delicious taste and the extra firmness makes it perfect for texturing beautiful 3D cookies like these perfect creations from the 2019 Cake Masters Cookie Award Winner Liz Joy Murray from Inspired to Taste.
Which is your favourite, left or right?
This dapper cake looks like it’s just come out of Saville Row, it’s covered in Renshaw Icing and decorated with Edible Prints.
Art You Can Eat‘s stunning tailor made cake art.
Cake and fashion is a match made in heaven and some of our favourite cakes take inspiration from colours, patterns and textures from our favourite wardrobe items so next time you’re stuck for cake inspiration dig through your wardrobe (or reread this blog ?) and share your cakes with us on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter.
