Cake International 2016

Monday 18th April 2016

It’s been another great couple of Cake International shows in Birmingham and London recently, with some amazing features and pieces of cake art. From the weird and wonderful Cake Carnival by Sugar Show Productions, to the impressive Batman VS Superman by Rose Macefield, there was plenty of inspiration for the thousands of visitors who attended.

The Cake Carnival

This spectacular feature from the
thirty-plus strong team that brought you The Rocky Horror Sugar Show, returned with Cake Carnival, a sugarcraft version of a classic travelling carnival. At Cake Carnival you could find your favourite fairground rides and games in sugar form like the teacups and slot machines, a traditional strong man and ring master, and clowns that got scarier the further into the feature you went! It was another great display from the whole team, and we can’t wait to see how they top it next year.

Rose Macefield Cake Artist brought you the ultimate face-off between your favourite superheroes, Batman and Superman. The gigantic sugarpaste sculptures were perfect for getting a super-selfie with! Rose was also part of the Cake Masters Magazine hot air balloon collection with her ‘Captain Sky’ pirate themed balloon (below).

This year’s feature from Cake Masters showcased the work of nine incredible cake artists who intricately decorated hot air balloons with their own unique ideas. Did you love the hot air balloons? Well the great news is there’s a technique tutorial for each balloon available in the March issue of
Cake Masters Magazine.

The Weddible Dress

A very special feature at Alexandra Palace was the life-size
Weddible Dress – perfect timing with wedding season coming up! A collaboration between Sylvia Elba, Yvette Marner and Ilinka Rnic, they used wafer paper with fondant icing to create this showstopper.

All of the features above were sponsored by and used Renshaw products. We’d love to know what you thought of these pieces; join the conversation on Facebook and Twitter.
