Cake and Bake Show Fun

Thursday 11th April 2013

As we gear up for another action-packed show extravaganza at Cake International, we thought we’d take a little time to reflect upon events at the Cake & Bake Show Manchester – and say thank you to all who attended, it was great to be in the company of so many fellow cake fans!

If you couldn’t make it, we’ve rounded up a selection of the highlights from a fantastic weekend that saw over 27,000 visitors come through the doors of Manchester Central, all ready to share their love for all things sweet and savoury.

With an orderly queue in operation most of the time at our stand, we were delighted to see so many people wanting to try our Ready to Roll Icing and turn their hand to cake decorating. Of all our colours, Jade Green proved to be the standout of the show – just in time for all your sweet spring creations.

In between chatting to, and serving visitors to the stand, Claire Bailey, the Applications Manager for Retail & Sugarcraft, carried out icing modelling demonstrations for those keen to learn more. These cute puppies proved really popular and helped inspire budding cake decorators young and old to give it a go for themselves.

Those who wanted a more in-depth look at the art of cake decorating had the opportunity to learn from the pros in the special, ticketed Renshaw Sugarcraft Academy. Juliet Sear got to grips with sugarpaste with her sugar button decorating masterclass, while Elizabeth Solaru made perfect peonies with Renshaw’s popular Flower and Modelling paste for their eager audiences.

The show itself provided more than enough inspiration for us as a team as we admired the trends and techniques from the Cake Catwalk. The fashion-themed decorated delights on display took style notes from a host of icons including Audrey Hepburn, Carrie Bradshaw and Disney bad girl, Cruella DeVille.

There was something for everyone – from chocolate lovers wanting to satisfy their sweet tooth to experimental cake-makers looking for unusual trends and flavours. Blushing brides didn’t walk away empty handed either as the Wedding Shop Showcase put on a display of beautiful cakes for their big day, with detailing such as intricate royal icing piped lace and gorgeous cake painting.
