Tuesday 6th May 2014

We think that cakes can be works of art, beautiful and incredible creations that look every bit as good as they taste. Some of the most impressive cakes are those that take their cues from the fashion world. After all, where do you find more eye-catching and stunning visuals than the catwalks of Paris and Barcelona?

We’ve collected together 5 fashion inspired bakes that we believe represent the pinnacle of haute couture baking and cake making. Prepare to be dazzled darling.

London Fashion Week Slice

London Fashion Week Slice

These delectable chocolate and coffee slices were designed by fashion journalist Ella Gregory of Coco’s Tea Party in association with Aubaine for London Fashion Week. The combination of flavours is delicious and we love the carefully crafted chocolate high heel on top.

Mulberry Fashion Week Truffle Monster

Mulberry Fashion Week Truffle Monster

For the fashionistas with a sweet tooth, these cute little truffle monsters were made for Mulberry to celebrate Fashion Week 2012 and were part of their post-show gifts. Although they don’t have the typical elegance of fashion-inspired cakes and treats, these bite-sized delights are memorable and look delicious. And isn’t there a fashion monster inside all of us?

Chic Chanel Cake

Chic Chanel Cake

Nobody epitomised fashion like the inventor of the little black dress – Coco Chanel. This exquisitely styled three-tier cake by Oh, Sugar! Events has all the understated elegance that was Chanel’s hallmark: stark contrast between black and white, tasteful use of pattern and embellishments. And we love the sugar crafted bottle of Chanel No. 5 perched at the top, a perfectly rendered version of one of her most iconic products.

Viktor & Rolf’s Flowerbomb Cake

Viktor And Rolf's Flowerbomb Cake

The fragrance by Amsterdam fashion house Viktor & Rolf has a distinctive grenade-shaped bottle and an explosive scent inside. This luxurious cake offsets the brilliant white icing with black piped dots to conjure images of classic fashion design, while those sugar crafted roses are the perfect understated flourish.

Christian Dior Cake

Christian Dior Cake

Dior is one of the world’s most iconic fashion houses, famed for its range of ready to wear fashions, accessories and perfumes as well as cutting edge haute couture. This cake encapsulates the Dior brand with its fine attention to detail. The delicate roses and butterflies draw the eye up the cake and past the beautiful golden tassels. The painted fashion sketches that make up a panel on each side take real skill, as much as any fashion designer in Paris.
