The Great Renshaw Bake Off Week Three – The Results

Tuesday 26th August 2014

The third week of our Great Renshaw Bake Off competition has come to an end. Once again we’ve been stunned by the quality of your cake making skills. We had a fantastic array of flower cupcakes submitted this time, showing of great piping skills as well as some lovely moulded flowers and details.

This week’s judge was Frances McNaughton of Frankly Sweet. As a renowned sugarcraft expert, with several books on the subject as well as her status as a demonstrator for the British Sugarcraft Guild we knew that Frances would bring a discerning eye to proceedings.

Frances had a tough time whittling down all the fabulous flower cupcakes to choose her winner, but after much deliberation here is her choice.

The Winner

Joanne Bungay’s stunning bouquet of cupcake flowers won first prize. Frances had the following to say about these gorgeous cupcakes: ‘Joanne’s entry exhibited good piping skills to show a variety of different flowers, and in different colours. Of all the entries this definitely had the most impressive piping.’ Congratulations to Joanne who wins the prize of a £25 Renshaw Baking gift voucher.

Notable Mentions

As in previous weeks we’ve had uniformly excellent entries from everyone. Frances picked two other cupcakes that she felt were worth an honourable mention for their piping.

These exquisite cupcakes from Gemma Mills feature incredibly neat swirls of piping to give the effect of rose petals. Although not part of the judging criteria the sugar crafted flowers and butterflies bring a beautiful but understated hint of colour. Gemma’s cupcakes had a wonderful finish and were also a creative interpretation of the challenge.

Vicky Turner’s entry was also highlighted by Frances. It was a combination of piping skill and overall quality of finish that caught our judge’s eye.

A big thank you to Frances for taking the time to judge all the entries from what was a great selection of cake pops, and congratulations again to the winner Joanne Bungay.

Get ready for the next challenge, which will be announced on our blog shortly.
