October Half Term Treats

Friday 21st October 2016

It doesn’t seem like two minutes since school started again and now they’ve got a week off already! Outrageous behaviour… So if you’re stuck for ideas this half term or the weather just isn’t playing ball, we’ve got the perfect collection of recipes to keep everyone busy for the week.

Giant Crème Egg Cake

Crème eggs are just for Easter? We don’t think so! This giant crème egg inspired cake can be enjoyed any time of the year and was uploaded by Renshaw community member Jennifer Ball. A chocoholics dream, this recipe requires very few ingredients and is great for using up any spare chocolate lying around. It serves up to 24 people so there’ll be plenty to go around, perfect for any parties or large get togethers. This cake is perfect served on its own although why not enjoy it warm with a big dollop of ice cream? Delicious!

Dinosaur Biscuits

We promise these don’t taste as prehistoric as they sound! This recipe requires a little more equipment than the one above, namely in the shape of cutters. We use a slightly different technique than usual for getting the patterned decoration on these dinos, so why not take a look at our guide and have some fun creating them with the family.

Nutella Cupcakes

Now these are something special! Simple to make but absolutely delicious and will go down a treat with any Nutella fans. Finished off with Maltesers on top, they’re ideal as a half term treat for both young and old alike. If you aren’t a fan of Nutella then it can be swapped out for any chocolate-spread type filling you like. Experiment with different fillings and toppings and let us know what you come up with.

Biscuit Pops

If you fancy something a bit crunchier then these biscuit pops are sure to hit the spot. They’re super simple to make which makes them ideal for getting the children involved. This recipe makes around 16-18 biscuits so adjust the amounts accordingly depending on how many you need. We’ve gone for a decoration of white chocolate and coloured sugar crystals for ours but there are endless possibilities depending on what tickles your taste buds.

White Chocolate and Raspberry Biscuits

Easy to make and easy to decorate, these tasty little biscuits almost resemble many a child’s favourite, the Jammie Dodger. They can be easily stored for a trip to the park as part of a picnic or enjoyed in the comfort of your own home; nothing quite beats the smell of freshly baked biscuits. If you aren’t particularly fond of white chocolate or raspberries then swap out the ingredients for other classic combinations such as strawberries and milk chocolate or try out some fun flavour combinations for a funny afternoon with the kids. No matter what you choose, we’re sure they’ll become a family favourite.
