Decadent Cakes

Thursday 9th January 2014

Sometimes it’s the simple things in life that are the best, and that’s just as true in baking as anything else. A good old-fashioned fruit cake or that classic stalwart the Victoria sponge are often the most satisfying to bake and to eat.

But other times you just want to indulge in something special, especially after the post-Christmas detox of January.

A cake that takes the breath away, either due to its stunning decoration, mouth-watering flavours or decadent fillings, is something truly special to behold and savour. Here are some particularly decadent cakes to get your taste buds tingling and your creative juices flowing and help you cast of the shackles of the January diet.

Geometric Cake. If you want to try your hand at some intricate decoration that doesn’t require you to be a sugar craft expert then this is the one for you. Using six colours of our Ready To Roll Icing you can create an eye catching design that will lure people in. And then they’ll be hooked by the rich and creamy butter cream filling that is layered through the cake.

Mad Hatter Cake

Alice In Wonderland Cake. If only the Mad Hatter had served this cake at his party instead of eating plates and cups then Alice would have had a far nicer time. Deliciously Decadent Cakes created this incredible delight. We love the crooked composition, which keys in with the Hatter’s unstable character, and the flourishes like the fondant icing ribbons and pocket watch.

Red Velvet Cake (Image via Renshaw)

Red Velvet Cake. The perfect cake to indulge in with your significant other. A light and delicate sponge dyed a romantic red is the heart of this cake and the thick Vanilla Frosting coating makes it a gloriously sweet treat to share.

Guinness Chocolate Cake With Baileys Frosting. If you want to add a truly indulgent kick to a cake then adding alcohol to the mix is the way to go. This gorgeous cake from The Novice Chef ups the ante with the delightful tang of Guinness in the moist chocolate cake being bolstered by that sweet hint of Irish Cream in the lashings of frosting.

Art Deco Cake

Gold And Pink Deco Cake. Nothing says decadent like art deco. It conjures up images of parties at the Great Gatsby’s mansion, where dancing and drinking to the small hours was the order of the day. This stunningly decorated cake by Alliance Bakery, with its gold icing, piped detail and delicate modelled flowers would have been the perfect centrepiece of the party, next to a bubbling champagne fountain.
