Baking Industry Awards Results 2019

Thursday 5th September 2019

It’s been 15 fantastic years of Renshaw sponsoring Celebration Cake Business of the Year at the Baking Industry Awards. Our 3 talented finalists this year were Bonney’s Cakery, Shuga Budz, and Sugarlicious Cakes by Karen. It was another fantastic awards evening to celebrate and recognise the outstanding talent and achievements of those in the baking industry. Congratulations to all winners and finalists.

We had a record number of entries this year, and the talent was so high across the board. Independent judges review the work and business plan of the semi-finalists, as well as overseeing a ‘live judging’ day at the Renshaw Academy, where semi-finalists are invited in to complete final decorations on their cakes – this year they were challenged to make a cosmic themed cake. The independent judges this year were Sonia Young of the British Baker and Suzanne Thorp of The Frostery, and one of the stars of Channel 4’s Extreme Cake Makers.

Celebration Cake Business of the Year 2019

Congratulations to this year’s winner, crowned Celebration Cake Business of the Year 2019, Shuga Budz!

Shuga Budz, led by Amelia Nutting, are based in Wolverhampton and are no strangers to the Baking Industry Awards. Their amazing cakes and business have earned them a finalists place for a number of years. They’ve been in business for over 10 years and their specialities are their modelling skills and shaped cakes.

Independent judge Suzanne Thorp remarked; “Amelia’s cake captured the ‘cosmic’ brief perfectly, she designed an action-packed cake that was well balanced, cleanly executed and showcased her talents as a cake maker brilliantly. She is running a successful business and has a clear focus on its future which all make her a very worthy winner.”

As well as taking the title this year, Shuga Budz will also deservedly win £750 plus £250 of Renshaw and Rainbow Dust products. Well done!
