This month here at Renshaw, we’re celebrating all things cake. From heralding Great British classics like Victoria Sponge and discussing the best base cakes you like to decorate with, we’re also hunting down the up and coming trends currently taking the cake decorating world by storm. Rainbow cakes have been doing the rounds for a year now, but how many of you have got to grips with the bundt?
Out on the road, we have talked sugar paste with thousands of cake decorating fans at The Cake and Bake Show Manchester (more of which this week) and are ready to roll again this weekend at Cake International London, where The Renshaw School will be on hand with a stellar host of professionals to teach you new tricks and techniques for creating show stopping cakes and bakes.
We’re also teaming up with Clandestine Cake Club, the nationwide sensation which sees avid cake bakers of all abilities come together monthly in some secret location to share their cakes. Challenged to bake around a theme, each local group is encouraging some serious creativity amongst its members, not to mention skill development by asking people to bake beyond their usual favourites.
Keep your eyes peeled for a Clandestine Cake Club themed competition later this month and a chat with club founder Lynn Hill, who has recently launched a fabulous baking book – The Clandestine Cake Club Cookbook – comprising the most sensational cakes and bakes from across the local groups.
So, which cakes are the all-time greats, and which new cake baking and decorating trends would you like to get to grips with?
